Dear TFSD Parents, Students, Staff, and Patrons,

We understand that the closure of schools this week has created many questions. We hope to address as many questions as possible and will continue to update you as the situation changes. 

Will schools be open to pick up medicine, supplies, gym clothes or other items students left in their lockers? 

Yes, parents and students can pick up their things between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17. We ask that people picking up items from the schools leave directly after picking up their things. Please do not congregate on campus. If you cannot pick up your items during these times, please contact your child’s school. 

Will the TFSD be providing educational resources in the event of an extended closure?

We are working on plans for providing educational resources digitally in the event of an extended closure. This will not begin until after spring break if an extended closure is necessary. More information will be coming soon. 

Will food pantries be open? 

Yes, school-based food pantries will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at your neighborhood schools (if your school has one).  Plans are currently being developed for more access to the food pantries and those details will be distributed at a later date. 

Will students still present Junior Boards and Senior Projects this week?

No, students should not report to the schools on Thursday for Junior Board or Senior Project presentations. We will communicate information about when these will be rescheduled in a later email. 

Will athletic activities continue?

There will not be any athletic activities or practices until April 6. This is per Idaho High School Activities Association declaration.

When will we receive report cards? 

Report cards will be mailed out tomorrow. In addition, there will be information about how you can update your contact information in PowerSchool enclosed within the report card. Please make sure you take the time to complete the returning student registration form since this is how we know which phone numbers and email addresses to communicate with in the event of an extended closure.

Will schools be providing food for students during the closure?

We are currently looking at starting a program similar to our summer feeding program if we have an extended closure.  More information will be forthcoming. At the earliest, this would begin after spring break. 

Will the Public Meetings about Attendance Zones still take place? 

We are canceling the Attendance Zone Proposal public meetings scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 19. We may still hold the public meeting on Monday, March 30 but that will be determined at a later date. These meetings were originally scheduled to discuss the proposal to adjust elementary attendance zones and balance our schools to address growing areas in Twin Falls. Even though we will not be holding meetings in public we do want to provide you an opportunity to hear about the proposal and provide feedback. We have prepared a short video for you to watch and a short form to provide thoughts, questions, and considerations. This video and form can be found in the “News” section of the district website. 

Do days/hours the school district closes need to be made up?

We are not sure at this time. The state does have a waiver process to waive the instructional hour requirement. While we don’t have a definitive answer at this time, it is likely this would be utilized if we must close for an extended period of time.
